Kruger State School Celebrates Outstanding Semester Results! 🎉
We are proud to announce that Kruger State School students have achieved outstanding academic results this semester — the highest levels of academic achievement in recent years! Our learners have shown remarkable commitment to their studies, and we could not be prouder of their efforts.
This success reflects not only the hard work of our students, but also the dedication of our passionate teachers, support staff, and the ongoing encouragement from our families. Together, we are creating a strong, supportive learning environment where every student can thrive.
English Learning Area is our focus for improvement. At the end of last year, just over 70% of our students achieved A-C marks. Six months later, 77.9% of students are achieving this. This data is a great testament to the hard work of our staff and students.
Supporting Student Wellbeing
We are also pleased to share that Kruger State School has introduced a Dignity Vending Machine to support our students' wellbeing. This initiative provides free access to essential hygiene products and supports our ongoing commitment to dignity, equity, and respect for all students. You can read more about this in the Business Manager’s report.
Sporting Success and Community Spirit
A huge shout-out to our incredible Health and Physical Education (HPE) team, who have organised and delivered two fantastic Sports Carnivals this semester. The events were full of energy, teamwork and school spirit. We’ve received wonderful feedback from parents, and most importantly, our students had loads of fun and enjoyed being active and involved.
Thank you to our entire school community for your continued support. Let’s keep working together to celebrate success and ensure Kruger State School remains a place where every student can achieve their best.
Congratulations, Kruger students — your achievements are inspiring!
I am taking leave as of today and will be back at the start of Term 4. I hope you enjoy the holidays and the following term. Stay safe and healthy!
As always, thank you for being our partners in education.

Pride of Kruger and Celebration of Learning
Monday of Week 10 was Kruger State School’s Pride of Kruger event. This term, we proudly celebrated 90 students receiving awards—an increase of 25 compared to last term. What an achievement! We look forward to even more Kruger students receiving recognition next term.
Please enjoy the photos of our award winners proudly displaying their achievements. Well done, students!
The Pride of Kruger Parade featured three powerful performances by our Cultural Group: a First Nations Welcome and Farewell Dance, a Samoan Siva, and a Haka to honour the award recipients. These performances were incredibly moving and truly showcased the rich cultural strength and diversity of our Kruger community.
The Pride of Kruger Parade was followed by our Celebration of Learning—an opportunity for families to visit classrooms, explore student work, and see first-hand the academic growth and progress students have made this term. The afternoon concluded with a community BBQ, bringing families, staff, and students together.
What a wonderful afternoon of celebration, culture, learning, and connection!

Kruger Makes Great Progress in the Premier's Reading Challenge
As of Tuesday afternoon, Term 2 Week 10, 61 students have completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge — an outstanding achievement! One of our champion readers, Addison 3B has already read 60 books, with another, Laasaga 4D, close behind on 40 books. What an incredible effort!

Left to Right: Addison (3B) has read 60 books; Laasaga (4D) has read 40 books.
To celebrate our readers, we’ve set up the Kruger State School ‘Wall of Awesome’ in both the Student Services Office and the Main Office. Be sure to check it out and see our amazing students being recognised for their dedication and love of reading.
Here’s our current Leaderboard:
🏆 FlexiSpace (Ms Atkinson) is leading the charge, based on the highest proportion of students in a classroom who have completed the challenge.
Hot on their heels are:
🥈 4E – Mrs Cramer
🥉 3C – Ms Chen
🎖️ 4D – Mr Russell
The challenge continues until Friday of Week 6 next term, with a Celebratory Parade in Week 7 on Monday to honour all our successful readers.
Let’s keep reading, Kruger!

🧮 Attention Prep Parents: Our Prep students are about to celebrate a special milestone — 100 Days Smarter! 🎉
On Friday 18 July we will reach our 100th Day of Prep! Please join us as we celebrate this special milestone. We encourage you to dress up your child/ren as 100-year-olds 👵👴. From 9:00am-10:00am we will be enjoying 100-themed activities and challenges in each classroom. 🎈 After the classroom fun, families are invited to stay for a picnic from 10:00am–10:30am in the Prep playground. Please bring along some food for you and your child/children to enjoy together!
We can’t wait to celebrate 100 days of learning, laughing, and growing with you!
Every School Day Counts
Did you know that missing just one day of school a week adds up to 40 days a year? That’s eight whole weeks—almost an entire term of days of learning! Similarly, arriving 30 minutes late each day may not seem like much, but over a year, that’s more than 15 full days of learning lost.
What could this mean for your child?
- 📚 Missed days of learning. can make it harder to keep up with classwork and routines.
- 🤔 Gaps in understanding could lead to reduced confidence in their reading and learning.
- 🧩 Fewer opportunities to connect socially and emotionally with friends, through their learning in class and with the great extra-curricular opportunities we currently offer at Kruger State School.
- 💡 Lower engagement and achievement over time, which can affect future opportunities.
What can you do right now? Remember every minute at school matters
If we build good attendance habits from an early age we can set children up for future success—not just academically, but socially and emotionally too. Let’s work together to make every day count!
If you need support with attendance or morning routines, please reach out. We are here to help.
Every child. Every Day. It’s the Kruger Way!

Head of Department Student Engagement - Mathilda Holt

This term marks the end of my first as Head of Department – Student Behaviour at Kruger State School. I’m excited to share that both Mr Jalloh and I will continue in our roles through to the end of the year.
It’s been a fantastic term for the Student Engagement Team! Together with our incredible Youth Workers, we’ve worked hard to support students in both proactive and responsive spaces. So far this year, students have cashed in 838 SNAP Shop prizes and received 401 awards through Pride of Kruger and parade celebrations.
For me, student engagement at Kruger means more than just showing up—it’s about every child being connected to their learning journey in meaningful ways: behaviourally, socially, emotionally, and cognitively. As we wrap up Term 2, I’m proud of the strong foundations we’re building—where every student can participate, grow, and belong, and where staff and families continue to walk alongside them every step of the way.

Guidance Officer - Allen Weynberg

It takes a community to raise a child. Working in our wonderful diverse community, I have seen many great people caring for children – mothers, fathers, carers, grandparents, step-parents, uncles, foster carers and many more. Good people are always needed to look after children in times of need. Recently the school were contacted by Inala Community House who are always looking for foster carers. Please have a look at the flyer below and get in touch with them if you feel you can contribute.
On a separate note, I am lucky enough to have some long service leave and will be away from school for all of Term 3. I am visiting family in the UK and travelling in France and Ireland. Ms Ellen Taverne will be Guidance Officer at Kruger two days per week in my absence, please give her a warm Kruger welcome. I shall return on 7 October.
Business Manager - Melissa Henderson

Thank you for taking the time to read the key messages below and keeping informed.
KEY MESSAGES FOR FAMILIES
Facilities Updates
Middle Amenities Project Update
The middle amenities project is complete and the new toilets will open next Term.
There are sufficient cubicles in the middle amenities block to service the whole school.
When the new toilets open, the upper and lower amenities blocks will close.
More Infrastructure Projects Announced
In addition to the Flexispace Project and Tuckshop Refurbishment Project, Kruger SS has secured funding of $950,000 to refurbish the school Library and to resurface the staff carpark and multi-purpose outdoor courts. Works on the multi-purpose courts, Tuckshop and Flexispace are expected to commence over the September school holidays, with the other works planned to start over the Christmas holidays.
More information will be provided as it is known.
Introducing the Dignity Vending Machine
Kruger State School is excited to advise the Dignity Vending Machine (DVM) provided through the Share the Dignity in Queensland schools initiative has now been installed in our school!
DVMs provide students with access to free period products when they need them. The DVM is located in the new Amenities block in the girls toilets.
The purpose of the initiative is to support students’ wellbeing and engagement, ensuring access to period products is not a barrier to student attendance and learning at school. The installation of a DVM is just one way our school is supporting students’ positive engagement at school.
Installation, ongoing stock and maintenance of the DVM is funded through the Share the Dignity in Queensland schools initiative as part of the Queensland Government’s commitment to supporting students’ wellbeing and engagement. This means students have access to period products through the DVM at no cost to them, their families or the school.

Teaching and Learning
Prep
In Prep A, we’ve been busy building our reading and writing skills! Students have been working hard on their letter formation- sounding out words, tracing them, and then writing them independently. It’s been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they begin to read and write CVC words.

Year 1
1B have enjoyed exploring properties of different materials in Science this term. Students had a blast designing and creating their own waterproof boats. They used different materials to make a boat that floated. Check out their amazing boat designs.

Every morning, Class 1D starts the day with a Morning Circle. The children sit together in a circle to talk about class rules, expectations, and school announcements. It's also a time to discuss any classroom issues and share thoughts. This daily routine helps build a positive and respectful classroom community.

Year 2
Year 2 Worked Hard on Their Assessments!
As we concluded Term 2, Year 2 classes did a fantastic job completing their assessments. The students worked very hard and stayed focused during each task.
They tried their best in all aspects of their learning and showed great thinking and effort. It was wonderful to see them using what they have learned in class.
We are very proud of how well they did. They showed a positive attitude and didn’t give up, even when the work was tricky.
All Year 2 teachers are so proud of all their efforts this term. Well done, Year 2! You should all feel proud of yourselves!

Year 3
We have made it to the final week of Term 2! Here are some of our highlights from Term 2.
English: We focused on informative writing and reading comprehension. It was wonderful to see students sharing the information they researched. Also, Students learnt about Australia’s First Nations peoples and how communities have changed over time.
Maths: Students practised working with numbers up to 999 by breaking them into parts in different ways to help with adding and subtracting. They used these skills to solve everyday maths problems. Students learnt to estimate, compare, and measure how long events take using units of time like minutes and hours.
HASS: Students continued to gather and analyse information to explore the significance of individuals, events, and aspects of the past, focusing on the importance of celebrations like ANZAC Day for different groups of people.
Science: Students created presentations to explain the cause of everyday observations on Earth, including night and day, sunrise and sunset, and shadows.
In week 9, students enjoyed an exciting and energetic Sports Carnival filled with fun, teamwork, and friendly competition. It was wonderful to see everyone giving their best effort and cheering on their peers. The atmosphere was lively, and students had a fantastic time participating in a variety of events. Congratulations to the Green Team for their outstanding performance and for taking home the win this year!
What a busy and exciting term it has been. The students have worked so hard and shown fantastic growth in their learning. We are incredibly proud of all their achievements!
Please stay safe during school holidays and we cannot wait to see you all in Term 3.
From Year 3 Teachers

Year 4
Over the past couple of weeks, our Year 4 students have been focusing on developing important social skills to support their learning journey. Through class discussions, activities, and reflections, students have explored what it means to show resilience, adopt a growth mindset, and demonstrate perseverance when faced with challenges. These skills are helping students build confidence, bounce back from setbacks, and stay motivated as they strive to be the best learners they can be. We’re proud of their efforts and look forward to seeing how these skills continue to grow in the coming weeks!

Year 5
We've had a term full of exciting learning and fun events in Grade 5! Celebrating everyone’s success!
In Maths, we've been exploring different strategies using our knowledge of multiplication and division.
In English, we dived into the topic of bushfires… learning about what causes them, how cool burning works, and what happens to the environment before, during, and after a fire. We showcased our understanding by creating informative reports.
One of the highlights of the term was Athletics Day. We gave it our all, showed great resilience, and celebrated lots of smiles and personal bests!

Flexi Space - Jenni Atkinson
Wow, what a huge couple of weeks in Flexi as we finished our learning and then celebrated the students that will be leaving us to join their mainstream classes next term. We have received some lovely feedback from our student surveys:

Yes, I have because it makes me feel loved and not left out. Ariel
I’ve enjoyed being at flexi because I have a friend that’s not in my normal class and there are less kids. Lachlan
If you could speak to a student that was going to come into Flexi, how would you describe this class or your experience in the class?
Welcome to Flexi it’s like a family home and I hope you make friends. Zephaniah
I will welcome them and show them a tour of what flexplace is like and tell them what work we are doing. Tell them it’s good here as you get help from the teachers. Paul
What do you like about flexi?
It has the marble run; it has the reading chair. It also has my friends. Riki
I like flexi because I get to do things I haven’t done before and I get to walk around and move which helps me concentrate. Khryzin
